Mid-range Android phones have been on the rise for the past couple of years, and while Samsung and Google have indeed contributed to this popular device segment, its usually Chinese phone makers tend to push the envelope with some notable flagship device offerings at incredible prices.
No doubt, one of the most respected Chinese phone manufacturers in the international market is OnePlus. However, if you’re familiar with the company’s recent track record, you’d know that consistency and unparalleled value aren’t exactly a given for flagship killer brand OG. But! I have a feeling that you can cancel it right now, or better on July 7, when a phone called the OnePlus Nord 3 is due to launchand (most likely) set a new standard for what a midrange Android phone looks like in 2023-2024.
In case you’re not familiar, the Nord series is to OnePlus what the A and SE series are to Samsung and Apple—in other words, their $300-500 line of mid-range phones. And while the original OnePlus Nord, OnePlus Nord 2 and OnePlus Nord 2T offered good value for money, the new OnePlus Nord 3 makes it seem Vintage OnePlus is back but this time with a mid-range killer, which could surprise phones like the Pixel 7a and Galaxy A54.
Here’s what the best $400-500 Android phone of 2023 could look like, folks! And it’s not made by Samsung or Google. And certainly not even from Apple.
OnePlus Nord 3: Five-star hotel of mid-range Android phones puts Pixel 7a and Galaxy A54 to shame with flagship design, display, camera, processor and software support

Find the $1,000 phone. It’s the one in the middle.
It’s hard to point out a single feature that stands out in the OnePlus Nord 3 and (thankfully) that’s because OnePlus Truly He’s coming in heat this time. In fact, it might be easier to criticize the phone’s leaked spec sheet and design as the weaknesses appear to boil down to a mediocre ultra-wide-angle camera and lack of wireless charging and an official IP rating for water resistance. And that’s if you’re interested in any of these features, and I’m not. Not at this price, and considering the rest of the Nord 3’s hardware.
Of course, when it comes to mid-range phones, corner cutting is expected but what is important is to cut the Right corners, and I think OnePlus may have nailed it here, as most people will find the Nord 3’s feature set incredibly enticing! Keep in mind that the leak we’re working with is from someone who’s had the phone for a while and even unzipped it on the camera, so the specs and features to expect should be pretty accurate

Google Pixel 7a and Samsung Galaxy A54 cannot compete with the flagship hardware of OnePlus Nord 3

OnePlus’ $400-500 mid-ranger looks like a $1,000 flagship!
But let’s put things into perspective by comparing some of the OnePlus Nord 3’s hardware with the competition from Google and Samsung.
To begin with, the 6.7-inch 120Hz display with up to 1,500 nits peak brightness would make the Nord 3s panel one of the best mid-range phone screens ever. As never never. Cherry on the cake? It seems we have incredibly thin display borders all around, which makes the Nord 3 more premium than some $1,000 phones out there. By contrast (and that’s no comparison), Google’s Pixel 7a boasts a pretty average 90Hz OLED panel, while the Galaxy A54’s 120Hz screen is surrounded by some of the thickest bezels you’ll see in this price range. it’s safe to assume that the OnePlus Nord 3’s 8MP and 2MP ultra-wide-angle macro cameras won’t wow anyone with outstanding quality, OnePlus has focused on the 50MP main camera, which is exactly the same as used in the company’s flagship OnePlus 11. You can check out our OnePlus 11 review for samples, but this is truly a flagship shooter, especially when combined with OnePlus’ expert software processing.
The OnePlus Nord 3’s 8MP and 2MP ultra-wide-angle macro cameras won’t wow anyone with incredible quality, but I still use my main camera to take pictures 95% of the timeand the OnePlus Nord 3’s 50MP main camera is the same as the flagship OnePlus 11. I hope the image processing between the two is also consistent!
While OnePlus Nord 3 should be able to recharge from 0 to 100% in about 30 minutes, competing phones from Samsung and Google take double or quadruple the time to load! The Google Pixel 7a takes 2 hours to recharge from 0 to 100%. Let it sink.,,
Software may no longer be OnePlus’ Achilles heel
But wait until you hear the icing on the cake (what?!), and this is OnePlus’ commitment to better/longer software support! Of course, you should only believe it when you see it But OnePlus has now confirmed that select 2023 OnePlus phones will receive 4 years of Android OS updates and 5 years of security patches.
It was later clarified that (for now) this policy will only apply to the flagship OnePlus 11 (and newer flagships) but that can mean two things for the mid-range OnePlus Nord 3: there’s a chance this could get the same premium treatment for software support, but even if it doesn’t, 3 years of OS updates and 4 years of security patches seem to be warranted. for Nord 3, which is still great.
I’m sorry Carl Pei! Nothing can stop android’s new flagship killer – VintageOnePlus is back and the OnePlus Nord 3 proves it

The leaked images reveal that the OnePlus Nord 3 is expected to come with an 80W charger in the box, which can charge the phone from 0 to 100% in around 30 minutes.
It hasn’t been long since I put together a story about the Xiaomi Poco F5, saying this could have been the best mid-range Android phone whether it was available in the US and whether it had reliable software support. Surprisingly, I didn’t have to wait long to find another contender for the best value Android phone of 2023, and now it looks like this device could be the OnePlus Nord 3! Again, we’re working with (reliable) leaks here, so keep that in mind.
The flagship design, display, main camera, processor and software commitment to the OnePlus Nord 3 suddenly bring back memories of Vintage OnePlus: The company Carl Pei left to start Nothing. Which is also the pun in today’s title And no, I’m not proud of it. Or am I?
I’ve said this many times before, but it’s really hard to get excited about a new phone nowadays, and I’ve found what I define as exciting lately are phones that bring incredible value. With that in mind, if the stars align, the OnePlus Nord 3 could sneakily transform itself into one of the year’s hottest phones. I’m quite surprised to say that considering there is a phone like the Pixel 7a, but here we are!
Anyway, my only warm request for OnePlus is to bring the Nord 3 to the US which would give it the deserved attention to face the mainstream competition! Still, OnePlus Nord 3 will be launched on July 7thand it would be a shame if it didn’t come to America.
