You’ll make more money this summer if you decide to finally say goodbye to that old iPhone you’ve been holding on to. Apple has raised the maximum trade-in value for certain iPhone series, which could help bring the price down if you’re looking to buy one of the best iPhones anytime soon.
The new adjusted trade-in values are slowly returning to what Apple was willing to pay for older iPhones this time last year. Apple lowered iPhone trade-in values in November and again in January, before raising them slightly in March. That’s still a long way from the 2022 highs, but at least you can expect more in return for your old iPhone when you buy a new model directly from Apple.
The maximum value Apple will pay has gone from $600 to $640. That’s the new trade-in value for an iPhone 13 Pro Max in good condition. Trade-in values for the iPhone 13 Pro and standard iPhone 13 have also jumped to $530 and $420, respectively.
Meanwhile, many of Apple’s smaller iPhone models have seen their trade-in values drop. You’ll now get as much as $330 for your iPhone 13 mini, down from $350, while the iPhone 12 mini saw the biggest drop of all new adjusted trade-in values, from $250 to $200.
|Row 0 – Cell 0||New value||Old value|
|iPhone 13 Pro Max||$640||$600|
|iPhone SE (2022)||$160||$160|
|iPhone 12 Pro Max||$460||$420|
|iPhone SE (2020)||$90||$100|
|iPhone 11 Pro Max||$300||$280|
|iPhone XS Max||$200||$200|
|iPhone 8 Plus||$90||$100|
|iPhone 7 Plus||$50||$60|
Apple hasn’t explained why it’s increasing trade-in values on some models, though it’s likely looking to ramp up iPhone 14 sales ahead of summer. With the iPhone 15 expected to launch this fall, Apple may increase trade-in amounts to move more iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max units.
Shortly after the launch of the iPhone 14 series last September, things weren’t looking particularly good for the non-Pro models. But Apple has since noticed that the regular iPhone 14 is doing surprisingly well, with sales surpassing those of both iPhone 14 models. iPhone 14 Pro, making it the best-selling version of Apple smartphones in recent months.
Whatever the reasoning behind it, higher trade-in values give you a great opportunity to snag a new iPhone at a fraction of the cost when you buy through Apple.
