One day after the murder of a managing director (MD) and chief executive officer (CEO) of a private company In Bengaluru, one of their colleagues on Wednesday claimed the owner of a rival firm was behind their murder.

On Tuesday, Chief Executive Officer of Aironics Media Private Limited Phanindra Subramanyam, 36, and Chief Executive Officer Vinu Kumar, 47, were stabbed to death by three men inside their office in the Amruthahalli area of the city.

Police arrested Santosh, 26, a resident of Marenhalli, Shabarish alias Felix, 27, of Devarachikkanahalli on Bannerghatta Road, and Vinay Reddy, 23, a resident of Roopena Agrahara, in connection with the crime. They are also questioning Arun Kumar, owner of G-Net, another broadband internet service provider in Bannerghatta where the deceased once worked.

In his complaint, Shankara Narayan, a colleague of Phanindra’s, said that all of them worked with GNet. The Indian Express got access to the FIR in which Narayan claims that business rivalry is the cause behind the murders of Phanindra and Kumar.

Phanindra and Vinu Kumar resigned from their jobs and came here to start Aironics Media Pvt Ltd. About 8-10 GNet employees also left the company and joined Phanindras company. The company was doing well and we were doing good business, he said in the complaint.

After Aironics opened, G-Net’s revenue declined as their business did not do well. Felix worked at the same company and we suspect GNet owner Arun Kumar sent Felix and his associates to kill the company’s CEO and CEO, he added.

However, a police officer, who is questioning Felix and his associates, said the accused did not disclose Arun Kumar’s role in the crime. Felix claims that he worked in G-Net and was fired by Phanindra for some issues and that he had a grudge against him. He also claimed that he came to kill Phanindra by making an appointment to look for a job in his company. However, we are verifying his claims, the officer said.

The police have registered a case under sections 302 (homicide), 120b (conspiracy) and 34 (common intent).

Felix, who is an Instagram influencer and rapper with around 16,600 followers, had posted a story on the social media platform prior to the murder. He said, “This planet people flatter and cheat all the time.” So I hurt the people of this planet. I only hurt bad people. I have never hurt any good person.

Felix had also shared a report of the murder of Phanindra and Kumar on Instagram before he was arrested near Kunigal in Tumakuru district.

While Aironics, under the Air-On brand, provides corporate Internet, network solutions, cyber security, Internet of Things and cloud services, G-Net provides residential broadband, business broadband and corporate leased lines.

A police officer said GNet’s activity sharply declined after Phanindra and her colleagues started Air-On, which was registered in November 2022.

The official said, “While there are big players like Act, Jio and Airtel, there are smaller companies looking to capture smaller markers and offer high-speed Internet at attractive prices.”
